Red Skies at Night
Joelle said during happy hour on October 21, 2007
There are a bunch of fires raging in North and East Counties, but the smoke is all over everywhere. I just went outside to empty my trash and had to cover my mouth the air is so rancid. However, that didn’t stop me from running outside with my Nikon to snap this shot.
There is no processing. This is straight out of the camera, taken in "broad daylight" around 5:45pm.

OMG. That is stunning....
Wow.
My hands are at my face at the thought that Pepperdine is being threatened by the blaze. The idea of my alma mater going up in smoke makes me want to cry!
Ok, full sobs now at the thought of it!
I was there in 1993 when the campus was similarly threatened by a wildfire spreading throughout Malibu Canyon. There was a fire in Laguna that same week, and I went home to my dad’s house (took me 3 and a half hours to go a distance that usually only took 1 hour) to sit and watch the news and ponder what might happen to the campus I’d grown to love. I was a sophomore at the time.
I hope everyone there pulls through ok. I hope everything winds up ok in San Diego. First the homes sliding down the hill in La Jolla, and now this? Too much...not right…
Stay safe, sista.
Nice photo, beautiful. Shame about the fires, though.

Reminds me of that old sailor/fisherman saying “Red Sky at Night, sailor’s delight” . . .
That photo is awesome . . . nice job of capturing it!
