Lap Happy

My well-adjusted Sony laptop with the pleasant disposition that I bought 2 years ago this month has been throwing me attitude lately. I’ll be enjoying a laptop sabbatical tomorrow as I need to take the ol’ girl in for a much-needed cleaning. There’s two years of crumbs and dust up in her bits, so her primping is long overdue.
Hm. I make my laptop sound like a poodle. With some kind of hygiene problem.
Anyway, she’s been running a little hot lately and the keys, especially the T, Y and R, have been sticking like mad. I makes me sa hings ha ae like his — and that’s not helping my productivity any. There’s only so much I can get to with my little can o’ air, so it’s time to deliver her to the professionals… also known as some kid who works at Frye’s Electronics in between sessions of World of Warcraft and masturbating to the Girls of Anime centerfold.
Hopefully when I get her back, she’ll be right as rain. If not, then I guess I’ll be getting a new one…

Joelle - when you get it back - or before you drop it off - grab and run this freeware (if it’s free, it’s for me) program:
Cleanup - after so long, computers amass and hoard so many temp and junk files that can bog and slow it down. This is a tool that will keep those pesky files at bay. Easy to use and, if you’re into sound effects, you can literally hear them being flushed away. For the power users, run it once a week - otherwise twice a month should suffice.
This recommendation is based on actual use. My “real” job is director of IT managing 75+ systems. This is a great tool, and is used religiously by my staff.
Good luck! Glad to see you’re one of those who take such good care of their pc’s!

Two years is a decent run when you consider how much you put it to good use, but still… Hope she comes back rockin’

@atomic: Thanks! Yes, considering I use her like 12 hours a day, almost 7 days a week for the last 2 years… it’s not too bad. I’d be ready for another one, but if I can put it off for a while, that would be ideal.
@dkaye: Thank for the recommendation! I’ll check it out.
Oh shit, is there a new issue of Girls of Anime out already?!?!?

@mikey: did you forget to renew again?
You know, WoW and spanking it to Girls of Anime gives one strong forearms, which are quite necessary for good computer cleaning function. I’m just saying, you don’t want your computer cleaned by some non-gaming onanism-abstainer, they just don’t get it *clean*, you know?
I second dkaye’s general suggestion of cleaning up the gunk that collects, as well as taking it in every 6 months (for a heavy computer user like you) to get it cleaned instead of waiting 2 years.

I have Sony laptop as well, and I just blew a ton of shit out of the other day, that helped my fan. I had to replace the hard drive about 6 months ago, but I always suggest reformatting every year or so to my friends and I practice it myself.

Good luck with that!
I miss my Sony, I had great luck until it completed crashed and burned for no apparent reason. I guess that’s not very good luck, is it?
Aw, well hopefully it will be able to be fixed.
I just bought your book & I think your blog is great!

Thanks everyone!
It didn’t seem to help the sticking keys, but it’s not running as hot and it’s quieter… so that’s something.
@kate: Thank you so much! We’d welcome your thoughts on Amazon when you’ve read it. Stop by anytime!
@moxierain: we’re working on it, but we’re so booked with clients right now we can barely get our own business site relaunched. But we are working on PDTD and on our new site, The Moxie Girls.com, which is going to be so fun… I can’t wait. You’ll see! Thanks for asking…

You probably have to replace the actaul keyboard to fix the sticky keys, you can usually find one on ebay, just search for your model number + keyboard (or you could even call Sony Parts and see how much it would be to buy it direct).
It’s usually pretty easy to replace the keyboard yourself, one screw on the underside of your case should release the keyboard and then it will either come right out, or you may have to kinda mess with it a little (pull a little here, push a little there) and then its got one cable to it, unplug it and plug in the new one!
I would open your laptop up before you get a new keyboard to check that the plug for the keyboard is right there on top (sometime they can be not to accessable).
Good luck!!
