I hope everyone had a very lovely Christmas holiday full of friends, family, caloric atrocities and copious amounts of liquor. I trust everyone got what they wanted for Christmas.
My Christmas was very mellow. Watched some movies, did some blog surfing, made a breakfast of cinnamon rolls, bacon and scrambled eggs that reminds me of my mom and dad. I spent some time with friends later on Christmas Day and wrapped up the evening with a trip to the cinema to see National Treasure: Book of Secrets. If you don’t want to know what I think, don’t read on.
I’ll cut to the chase: save your ten bucks and wait for the DVD. You know, I may even suggest waiting until it’s on HBO, if you happen to have the movie channels.
While the original wasn’t The Best Movie Ever, it was a fun romp – a somewhat educational adventure movie for the whole family. But this one totally robbed you of the element of surprise. It seemed formulaic and very pat. Like they were using The Idiot’s Guide to Adventure Movies. And they made the “geeky sidekick”, Riley, way too geeky in this one. I’m a fan of the quirky, bumbling, shy, smart-is-sexy character-type, but they overdid it here, in my opinion. And while I absolutely adore Helen Mirren, there wasn’t enough of her in this movie to warrant paying $10.50.
Overall, it didn’t suck, but it wasn’t the best sequel. And they built a third right into the plotline of this one, making a grand and obvious segue at the end. If a movie is a hit, is it some kind of law that you make two more that suck immediately following? I’ll reserve judgment for the inevitable third film, but I’ll do it from my couch and not with a pack of teenage girls with very tall shoes tittering through it to my right.
All in all, it was a very pleasant Christmas. There was only one thing I wished for that I didn’t have on Christmas, but I have a whole year to remedy that.

Glad to hear you had a pleasant Christmas.
Mine was rather quiet, but also pleasant. Except for this horrific stress rash that prevented me from partaking of Christmas dinner, it was good.

Sounds like a wonderful day… my sibs and I met up at the parent’s house - unfortunately, not long after we got there the parental units started bickering which, eventually, ended up in a screaming match. Some of my siblings stayed to watch, personally I decided I had enough “Christmas” and not enough “spirit” - so I went home in search of liquor and peace & quiet.

I’m glad you had a good day! Rob and I had sort of a cruddy one spent crying (nature sucks sometimes) but at the same time we’re extremely lucky that we got to spend the day together and in love. Even though crying on christmas is some of the worst crying out there.
As for National Treasure… I can’t handle Nick Cage. Everytime I see him I just think “they want to take my face… off?” and can’t get past it.
Merry belated Christmas!
Thanks for the warning… we went to see Charlie Wilson’s War tonight instead. It was pretty good… not a completely accurate retelling of a true story, but that’s not highly unusual. Fun/interesting characters.

@lani: I want to see that, too, but i think I’ll wait for DVD.
@WG: Thanks! Merry Belated Christmas to youuuuu!
@Maria: stress rash!? Oy! I hope that went away and you were able to enjoy the rest of your day.
@Louise: *smoosh*
@DJ: Ah, family. lol. And this is why there’s liquor.
My holiday hasn’t ended yet, but the Christmas part of it was very good, actually. I’m in Ottawa for a few days. Going to go skating on the Rideau Canal.
