I signed up on Tumblr because I just started blogging and I want to keep things simple. I don't want to pay monthly for hosting just in case I decide to end the blog.

My goal is to blog for a year, see how I like it and decide if I want to keep doing it or not. I figure a year should give me enough time to give it a fair chance. I want to use it as a place to feature my art, writing, and to blog about cool stuff that I like.

My tumblr blog doesn't look anything like most tumblr blogs but that's because I paid for a premium theme and was able to customize it, I got a very customized theme. My theme does have a "share this" button for Facebook, Twitter and Google +. I even have comments enabled.

The only things that I hate about tumblr right now is that the search box doesn't really work and I'm also having trouble with the RSS link ight now. If the time comes to where I have a huge audience and need to move on to a professional format then I will get a web designer.

A lot of people that are on tumblr tend to be teens and college students that post their favorite actors, fashion icons, movie gifs, quotes, etc. Its basically the microblogging version of pinterest.

One of my favorite art blogs http://drawn.ca is on tumblr and features different artists work. Tumblr is perfect for things like that. But yeah for someone that just began blogging, tumblr is perfect.

Yep, you just summed up my thoughts exactly. Tumblr just seems to be a place where all the people on the internet who don't understand copyright congregate. I HATE seeing something cool on Pinterest only to find it linking to a Tumblr post with absolutely no attribution. And I even get quite a bit referrer traffic on my food or flickr photos from tumblr blogs who do attribute correctly, but that just makes me think there must tons more that are sharing my photos incorrectly and it makes me more angry.

I follow a few photographers on Tumblr. It seems like a good place to post links or internet meme kind of stuff, but I definitely don't understand why anyone would ever post their own original photos or content on there. They're just shooting themselves in the foot!

But, I agree, that maybe I could try to tinker a bit more. I didn't mean for my original reply to sound defensive simply because you're not agreeing with me. :) I have customized a couple Tumblr's and just don't care for it, I guess. Are you using Tumblr, Joe? Just curious. Do you like it?

Hm. I disagree. I think, as a web designer, I DO need to "get it" so I know how to educate the clients who ask me if they should get one.

I also have a Tumblr and have tinkered about in there trying to customize it to my needs, it's not as customizable as it seems. At least not easily.

Like I said, I don't hate it, I just don't really see the point of it unless you're using it full-time as your blog.

Tumblr, to me, is a hybrid of old school blogging and old school forums, with highly advanced sharing tools. It makes it easy to find images in your niche.

No, people don't use citations the way they should. You don't have to get it. As a web designer, I'd argue you should try to make a basic tumblr theme, then once you do that and see all the ins and outs of the platform, you might get it better.

"But hey, maybe I’m just an old school blogger fart who doesn’t get it."

You just summed up my thoughts on Tumblr exactly! All of it. Every point. Almost as if you've been in my head. Sorry for the mess in there...

Seriously, though, I had this conversation on Facebook a while back. I wanted people to explain the appeal because I wanted to try to "get it." Nobody was able to really help me get it. Even the ones using it.

I'll stick with my blog. It's served me well.

Totally. I only refer to myself as Lulu's "mama", in the house, between us. I don't walk around saying "I'm Lulu's mom" and try to enroll her in preschool. LOL!

And we sing songs to Lulu all the time. ;) Zac is not alone. We like to substitute most popular songs with "bun" puns.

Parker is so cute. Wieners are the best!
