Drinking Since Noon

Well, my new design is up.  I’m still tinkering with things around here: tweaking this, adding that, finessing this, stroking that. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty happy with it.

I’m sure there will be some of you that won’t care for the new look, prefer a lighter background, want bigger text, like more contrast, wonder why my ‘banner’ is way down at the bottom, wish Brad Pitt were your husband… whatever the case may be. And that’s ok, though Angelina might take umbrage.

So why this look?  Because I wanted to do something different. Because I wanted to experiment with textures and depth. Because I needed to break out of the box a little and at the same time, rekindle some of my joie de vivre! And because well… I like it like that. :)

Some of you may have noticed I’m taking a break from my long-term relationship with Expression Engine and having a fling with WordPress. It’s not because I don’t love Expression Engine anymore (I still use it for clients).  I just needed to feel the tingles again. You know what I mean?  If WordPress doesn’t sweep me off my feet, I’m sure EE and my blog will meet again… when 2.0 comes out.

If you are so inclined, please check back again to see if any changes have been made. Or, if the look is just not your thing, update your feed.  Muchas gracias.

  1. Absolutely GORGEOUS. I love the antiquey/treasure sentiment! It’s really fabulous — if this is the end result, drink more!

Loving, loving, loving it. I want to nap on the textures, so lush.

    Cheers!

    • Yes, it’s helpful to read the whole post first. ;) hehe! I knew not everyone would like it, but as you say, that’s what feedreaders are for. I need someplace I can be free to be as creative as I like and not have to worry about what this person thinks or that person thinks or what the advertisers want, etc. No better place than my own blog.

Thanks for the feedback, though, Danalyn!

  2. Oooo, nicely done. Its almost as cute as Lulu, but not quite. And here is your official “don’t feel guilty about having a fling” indulgence in comment form! Unless of course, you cheat on Lulu. That would be sad. :(

  3. Like the new look! I need to find time to play around with more stuff seeing as I have new clients coming my way. And I look forward to sharing what I learned from your book with them in my work.

    LatigoLiz’s recent blog entry: Welcome!

  4. I mentioned it on the previous post, but I love the design! Especially the young woman in the “smart red coat” in your banner — fabulous!

    • Yes, I shall. :) I just wanted to see what all the hubbub was about with WordPress. I’m so used to EE, but these days I just don’t do as much development as I used to; more design. I wanted to tinker with WordPress, but I’m not sure what I think yet.

  5. I like it! It’s very elegant. White text on black used to make me blind back when everyone was doing it, but now it seems really clean and pretty.

On the other hand, now I feel like I have to stop using the default template, too. Pthththth!

    • Thanks, Tanya! I tried to choose a gray color to use for the text so it wouldn’t be so hard to read. I’m glad you like it. :)

  6. My only beef with an otherwise gorgeous look is the blogher ad is really bright against the dark skin. Makes it almost painful to read until I scroll down far enough to get past it.
    Otherwise, I love it.!

  7. This is truly a beautiful new look and though I don’t know you personally I think it fits what I’ve observed over the years. Although the font size is kinda small, I just adjust it like I do on most other sites (ctrl-scroll) and it’s not even an issue.

My girl thinks it’s “chic awesome!” :)

  8. It’s not just you, I’ve noticed that the apartment above me is also brighter. I think it’s because they are up higher, the light is more direct and catches the reflected rays better.

Brian’s recent blog entry: Are you done?

    • That could be, but it was mostly the brightness in regards to the lighting in there… :) Also, you commented on the wrong entry. hehe! But I’ll let it slide… ;)

  9. That’s weird. I honestly thought I clicked on the Coffee Maker entry! (You and your quest for the Ultimate Coffee Maker! You’re like Spinal Tap and their drummers; both keep dying. LOL!)

OK, so now I guess I have to make an on-topic post now. :)

I think the “Fabulous Since 1973″ “Blogging Since 2003″ “Drinking Since Noon” is still the BEST tag line that I’ve read on a blog. Didn’t you win an award for that one? I know you were nominated at the very least. That’s how I found your blog way back when…

You really should copyright that statement.

Brian’s recent blog entry: Are you done?

    • Thanks, Brian! :) I still get people commenting about that tagline, so I had to bring it back. And yes, I did win an ‘award’ for Best Tagline in 2004. That year I was also nommed for Best New Weblog and Weblog of the Year, but it was my tagline that brought me TRIUMPH! *does a victory lap* But I’m not clinging to a brief moment of glory. Not at all. *cough*
