Laying the Smite Down
- July 15th, 2008
Kathy and I were bombarded this morning with assorted ways our content and/or design work was being highjacked by other people. So I spent my morning drafting DMCA violation notices or otherwise calling out said peddlers of plagiarism. Good times, good times.
One of these offenders was [name removed because it made me feel icky], which I normally would not call out in such a public fashion except for the fact that their about page says they are a Christian-centric company. That their “primary focus in life is God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost”. Muh!?
Jesus is going to be pissed. It’s been a while since I read the Bible, but I did spend a significant portion of my life in parochial schools. The last time I checked, Big J wasn’t down with theft. Did I miss that amendment to Exodus 20:15? “Thou shalt not steal, unless it’s on the Internet”? I think we need an 11th Commandment – “Thou shalt not be a hypocrite.”
Now, I am not a Christian, but this is double standard by any measure. This is also a great example of why I have a hard time buying into the idea of Christianity. I’m not knocking Christians, so don’t get all up in holy arms, nor am I suggesting that all Christians do this kind of thing. Of course not. But this kind of entitlement drives me mad.
So, in Jesus name, I sent a cease and desist. Amen.

got one of your own? share it.
Too bad they don’t devote a little of their lives to proofreading. On their “About Us” page, they end with this gem…
“We like to do a good job because we work for the One that blesses us, not just for our clients. Thanks for stopping buy. “
Thanks for stopping buy? Priceless.
I just blogged about this very thing last week or so. The hypocrisy is maddening! If you bring your faith into the conversation, it’s perfectly reasonable for people to hold you to a higher standard. Some Christians give Christians a bad name, that’s for sure.
Unfortunately I think a lot of people “use” this language to dupe people. I’m pretty sure a special place in hell is reserved just for them.
@chepooka: well, they can’t share my table. It’s full.
@amy t.: heh. I didn’t catch that! I was too busy reeling from their copypastitis.
You know, in hindsight, I probably didn’t need to list their URL. I feel weird about it. Should I feel weird about it? It feels unprofessional. Can my point me made without it? Probably… but see, that’s where I have those things… what are they called? Oh yeah, scruples. hehe!
There are 3 magnets on my fridge that I think you might like:
“Jesus would smack the shit out of you”
“Jesus loves you *some conditions may apply”
and finally…
“I’ve got nothing against Jesus; it’s his fan club that I can’t stand”
@fred i love the magnets!
also, what’s the link? can we annoy them as your followers? prettyplease?
Favorite bumper sticker, EVER
In that glittery large font:
“Jesus loves you but everyone still thinks you’re an asshole”
“Jesus thinks you’re a prick.”
Did they respond back? And who are they anyway?
I’m a pastor’s kid so I grew up watching the hypocrisy.
Most of the Christian “leaders” that I have met in the church assume a couple of things… 1. they are entitled because everyone is supposed to give them something for nothing because people are expected to “share their talents” – in other words they shouldn’t have to pay for anything and 2. The rules never apply to them.
