On About San Diego last night I learned that we are home to the first documented outdoor electrically-lighted Christmas tree.
Meaning, Rockefeller Center? The Presidential Christmas tree? All those major tree lightings that happen outside at this time of year?
They all can supposedly be traced back to our once semi-pitiful pine tree at The Hotel Del Coronado (where they filmed Some Like It Hot). They still light the same tree every year. It’s not pitiful anymore, though.
I just thought that was neat.
Check out the short video, if you like.
Oh! One more thing: Is it Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen or is it “Donder”? Peggy Lee sang “Donder” the other day in her version of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and while that is my absolutely least favorite Christmas song, I take issue with that. What say you?
This just in…
Snopes chimes in on Donner vs. Dunder, but nothing about Donder. Maybe that’s what she said… Dunder… Hm. I found this site about Donder, though. I guess I stand corrected, but I’ll stick with Donner.

It is Donner, in my book. LOL
Merry Merry!
Fuck the history. It’s Donner and Blitzen, and anyone who says differently is pinko commie terrorist scum.
Merry Christmas, Joelle!
Donder? Dunder? Wha? I always knew it as Donner…
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
I vote for Donner. Cool bit of Christmas tree light history. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas!
I always thought it was Donner.
I hope you had a Merry Christmas!
Rockefeller stated “It was clear that there were only two courses open to me. One was to abandon the entire development.
